M: No, it's coupons to buy food. You can't eat them.
G: Then why did you say it's yummy??? *sounded irritated*

I was laughing my head off. What a great way to start my day! Of course I had to explain to him what his mama said and what coupons are later on.

The school holiday is just around the corner and I am frantically looking for holiday programmes to occupy Gabriel. If not, he'll be bugging me everyday - "What are we going to do today?" It's not easy trying to fit the activities to the dates perfectly as most of them coincide with one another. But so far, we have a trip to Kajang, a wedding, a doctor's appointment and a concert on the calender. And that is good. So, it's going to be a busy busy holiday for us.

Mummy gave birth today! I have a new baby brother! I hope he grows up fast so I can play with him. I can't wait for him to come home... I miss Mummy too!

I was so excited and thrilled (and at times scared.. I'm not too fond of big puppets and dancing lions) that I think I will be talking about the experience for days to come!

Since I was sick, it was a rather small crowd since Mummy and Daddy couldn't invite the whole world last minute.

I had lots of fun with the games and with my friends! Ooh.. the presents were great too!

Ever since Gabriel started going to nursery, he has been falling sick way too often. Before, his flu or cough normally last about 3 days. Now, it carries on for weeks. He has been coughing for the past 2-3 months, and once in a while the runny nose joins in. He has seen both the doctor and a TCM specialist. He would be fine for a week or so and everything starts again. Is it the weather? Or is he having allergic reaction to something?

He's been on the nebuliser for a week now as he was wheezing badly. When we first started, it was about 6-7 times a day. Now we're down to once a day, just before he sleeps at night. We slept without air-con the whole time - which was really torturing for us adults. He hasn't been to school since. We are still considering whether we should organize a party for his birthday, which is less than 2 weeks away.

Lately, I've taken a keen interest in playing with sand again.

Daddy brings me to the beach rather often so I can pretend to be in the Triassic Period and whilst standing on Pangea, I stake out ants and follow them around.

Daddy is trying to teach me compassion and to leave the ants alone and to not poke them. As Mummy would say, "How would you like a giant poking you with a stick?"

To which I would reply, "But Mummy, there are no giants!"

Heard of Diplodocus?

Here's a herd of Diplodocus.

As you can tell, they have long whip tails and a long necks..

Have you heard of them? Apparently, not many people do.. but from my drawings, I hope you will be able to learn more about them!

The small ones at the bottom are the baby Diplodocus. Their tails are not as long as their Mummy's. Oh, and the Mummy's tail is really really long and whippy in this picture I drew!

Yesterday, Mummy had to work late. And so, Daddy brought me to catch some sun at the Edelweiss Park (Uncle Leo's place) swimming pool.

I had such a ball of a time running around in the water and splishing here and splashing there!

I have to promise to be a good boy and not make Mummy angry for Daddy to bring me there again!

What fun! Now, if only I can be a good boy all the time... I'm gonna try!

Another oudated post - 26/2/2009

Gabriel is just like his Daddy when it comes to sleep. He simply doesn't like sleeping. He probably feels the same as Fred when it comes to sleep - it's a waste of time. There are way too many things to do instead of wasting time sleeping.

I normally have to make a deal with him to nap - he naps, we will do something outdoor and if he doesn't, he goes to sleep by 8pm. On days when he naps, his bedtime can stretch up to 11pm and that means he sleeps about 8plus hours only that night. If he doesn't nap, he sleeps about 11plus hours that night. The negative effects to this arrangement would be his mood. He would be super grouchy, he cries easily and he might fight sleep even more. Despite having to deal with a whiney boy, I much prefer this arrangement. I have the whole night for myself. There were a few times when Fred and I could have our dinner out.

A visit to Daddy's old school VJC

Out of nowhere today, Daddy decided to pop by his old school (which he graduated from in 1991) VJC because there was some kind of celebration going on. They apparently turn 25 this year. Ooh.. that's a lot of candles on a cake!

We walked around a bit at about 3pm.. and the place was relatively quiet as most of the people had gone off since the events were over.

We went into one Lecture Theatre where there were people playing Wii Tennis inside and I wanted to stay to watch.

Maybe I'll go to school there one day too... hmmm.. I wonder if I will get to play Wii Tennis in school... I hope they offer that as a subject. I should be able to do quite well.

Difficult Questions

Lately, Gabriel has been asking me a lot of questions about God and Jesus. I try my best to answer them in a way such that it won't confuse him even more. It is difficult...so very difficult. Most of the time I am astounded as his questions get "deeper". We had one such conversation early this morning.

He took the crucifix I'd placed on my table. After looking at it for a while,

G: Mummy, why is Jesus naked? (please pardon his vocabulary)
M: When the bad people took him, they took away his clothes.
G: What happened to Jesus after that?
M: He was tortured and he died.
G: Then what happened?
M: He went to heaven to be with God.
After thinking for a while,
G: Did he get his clothes back from the bad people?
M: Hmmmmm........ Let's ask Daddy later, ok?
G: OK
M: *phew*

Fred is my saviour most of the time when I'm faced with "difficult" questions. :)

Day Out at the Zoo

Daddy had one of those rare Saturday afternoons free today and I wanted to go to the zoo!

I go to see many of my "favourite" animals.. like tigers, hippos, rhinos, giraffes, dragons, tortoises and the list goes on!

After dinner, we went for a cycle at East Coast Park. Since Daddy
hadn't repaired my 4th wheel yet, I preferred to scoot instead.

Battle of Wills

I am mean sometimes. I don't give in when I know I should. It is about something so trivial anyway. From something that small, it blows up big, because I refuse to give in. After a long battle of crying screaming and shouting, we finally compromise. And he always thanks me for my effort after that. And not forgetting "I love you Mummy, so so much". I always end up feeling more lousy than ever. He is definitely a more forgiving person than I am, despite his tender age. I've got so much to learn from him.

Writing

I am a slacker mum who doesn't to much with my son. We paint and draw
once in a while as he is always half-hearted after thr first 10 mins
and I always end up doing the drawing and painting myself. Other than
that, some games, role-play or simply just me watching him play with
his toys.

One thing which I have consistently do since birth is reading. We read
a lot, at home and in the library. So today I thought I should start
on some writing. He wrote 'a' and 'b', the latter was easier for him
somehow. I think I should keep up with this. He was enthusiastic about
it and liked the outcome. :)

A Letter to God

Dear God,

Please give me strength - physically, mentally and emotionally to get through my days, especially on days when he is needy, whiney and uncooperative. Help me to control my anger and my voice. Stop me when I am at the verge of losing it myself. Give me gentleness and firmness in my voice so that I don't shout and scream at him whenever things don't go my way.

Please help to listen with both my heart and my mind when he speaks. Let me understand him better of his needs and wants. Give me humility so that I don't battle with him when it is unnecessary. Give me patience, for me to give him space and time to do things at his own pace.

I'm upset. I'm angry. I'm tired. I don't know what to say. I shout. I scream. I cry. I hit. I say "I don't want you". I say "I don't like you".

Everybody gets angry. They get upset. They shout at me. They scold me. They lecture me. They hit me.

Nothing I do pleases anyone. Everybody says "NO!", "You cannot do that!", "Stop it!" to almost everything I do. I am always wrong, even with the things I say.

I told Mummy that she doesn't love me anymore, nobody loves me anymore. I am sad. Nobody understands me anymore.

I wanted to go trade in my Evo VIII which Gege Nigel gave to me for
this new Evo X, since the VIII dropped its spoiler in a sequence of
crashes last week. (Incidentally, Daddy hasn't glued it back for me
yet.)

The man who showed us the car was actually good to go with the trade-
in. I should have brought my car along in my pocket. Hmmph! Maybe next

Mummy wonders why I can't sleep well at night. It's probably cos I
miss my stroller. Haven't had a good snooze in my cart for a long time.

Must be the noise around IMM which kept me asleep.

Tribal drumming and tribal dancing at Kindermusik. He likes the drumming but not the dancing.

He used to enjoy the class a lot more previously. He has backslided and is always begging me to stay with him for class these days. This is worrying as he starts nursery next year. Would be terrible if I have to sit in for his lessons everyday. :(

Sleepless in Bedok

I prepared him for bed at 9pm. Went through all the routines - brush
teeth, bathe and change. Read 3 books and surprisingly he didn't ask
for more. He must be tired and sleepy. I can finally catch CSI at 10pm.

Wishful thinking. It's 11.15pm now and he just fell asleep. And I
missed CSI. :(

Gabriel's favourite phrases these days - "I don't want (something) (a person)", "I don't like (something) (a person)" and "I don't want to talk to you." His outburst of negativity happens so often especially when he is upset and angry about something, and is often directed to our immediate family members. This upsets us a lot and we don't exactly know how to deal with it. Often, we would threaten, scold and even smack him. Not the "textbook" way to handle your child but we really do not know what to do. Soft approach or the hard way, we've done all that.

So, the constant question we have for ourselves is - "What did we go wrong?" Is this just a phase and it will pass? If it is, I hope it will end soon.

Three is so much more challenging than Two. :(

An Evening at The Chinese Gardens

Last Friday night, we decided to go and see the Lantern Display at The
Chinese Gardens!

I had so much fun running around with Shannon and GeGe Nigel. But I
was quite afraid of the Lion Dance.

It took me more than an hour to get to sleep so Daddy says I'm
fighting sleep. Maybe I'm afraid to miss out on anything when I'm

We were in the car on our way home from Chinese Garden when I realized
that he had a few mosquito bites on his legs.

G: Why did the mosquito bite me?
M: They were probably thirsty and needed to drink some blood.
G: I know, I know! (in the voice of a character from Higglytown
Heroes) You can make a cup of coffee for them to drink. Then they
won't bite me.
M: LOL :)
